CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

  

The school has 10 active clubs and three societies. The school programme has alternate Wednesday from 4 to 5 pm set aside for club activities and meetings. This is when club meetings are held. All the students are encouraged to join at least one club and one society.

The main aims of the clubs and societies include the following:

  • To educate
  • To stimulate thinking
  • To do research for knowledge and information
  • To entertain
  • To develop creativity
  • To render services to oneself and society
  • To provide an avenue for socialization
  • To help students grow spiritually and morally upright
  • To help students develop and exploit gifts and talents.

The societies include:

  • The Christian Union
  • The Young Christian Society
  • The Muslim Society.

The club and societies activities are co-ordinated by Md. Lydia Nabanga and, Md. Manal Ashur. The HOD is assisted by club patrons.

Below are individual clubs, patrons and their specific activities objectives and achievements.

MATHEMATICS CLUB

Membership

It has a membership of about 200 students from all the four classes.

Objectives

  • To boost Maths grades in the school.
  • To organize symposia to enable exchange of ideas between different schools.
  • To help students to have a positive attitude towards Maths.
  • To give students a sense of identity as members of Maths club.

Activities

The club activities vary from class to class but it includes discussion and solving of mathematical problems, organizing for congresses, contests, symposia within and with other schools.

Achievements

The students have been able to have improved results in K.C.S.E.

DEBATING CLUB

Club members are 100.

Objectives

  • To improve on public speech skills of its members.
  • To improve on grammar and language; both spoken and written.
  • To have its members fully aware and informed about current affairs.
  • To boost inter-school relations through debate.

THE RANGERS AND ST JOHN’S AMBULANCE

Club members are 25.

Objectives

  • To serve the community.
  • To produce members who have integrity and a sense of honor.
  • To teach the basic survival skills to its members.
  • To teach first aid.

THE KENYA RED-CROSS

Patron

Mr. Bobchinski Mutonga

Membership

Club members are 100.

Objectives

  • Helping victims of accidents to save life through first aid.
  • Involve themselves through volunteer work.

Activities

Their activities include world aids day, they take part in the Red-Cross art competitions, taking part in the National campaign in Mombasa at the coast.

THE SCIENCE CLUB

Membership

Club members are 50.

Objectives

  • To get every member to improve in their Maths, Biology, Physics , Chemistry and Maths.
  • To unearth the potential in the scientist by encouraging participation through essay writing and participation in science congress.
  • To apply what is learnt daily and get a practical approach to life through environmental conservation.

Achievements

Science club has been of help to keen students who have in turn developed a better attitude towards science subjects which has improved their results in science.

The 6 students who participated in the Students Congress for Science and Technology went up up to the National Level.

WILDLIFE & ENVIRONMENT CLUB

Membership

Club members are 50.

Objectives

  • To conserve and clean the environment.
  • To revive the lost resources e.g. through tree planting.
  • To visit various places of interest and learn e.g. game parks.
  • To teach members about the importance of wildlife.
  • To participate in the wild life competitions e.g. essay writing .

Achievements

They have managed to plant and care for trees in the school compound; they have been involved in national wildlife essay writing competition; they have managed a trees nursery; they have arranged tours for members to national parks and game reserves; they have educated the school community on matters of conservation of the environment, they have practically helped in proper disposal of used plastics and have cleaned the compound.

DRAMA CLUB

  • To improve on school entertainment.
  • To exploit and potray talents.
  • To educate people on social and moral issues.
  • To have united and confident members.

They have been able to participate in the district drama festivals.

MUSLIM SOCIETY

Membership

It is a society of 165 members.

Objectives

  • To unite all Muslims in Hassan Joho Girls Secondary School.
  • To strengthen one another in the faith.
  • To motivate one another academically and make good progresses.
  • To develop the character of individuals according to Islam towards being morally upright; offering guidance and counseling on life issues.

Activities

The society meets every Wednesdays from 1.2o p.m. to 2.00 p.m. for the services.
